Well, the NBC studio tour is fun...walking around 5th avenue, shopping...I've never been IN Central Park, but you could go in there. Um...walking around Times Square. There's the Virgin Mobile Record store and the Toys R U store. And the Woman in White's theater is there. I took a picture of it. Just somethings...

lol its new york! the whole city is sightseeing! Central Park is great, but more in warmer weather than what we have now, again, walk up fifth avenue, times square shouldn't be missed, South Street Seaport, the MET definitly, the Gugenheim (seriously didn't spell that right), anywhere you go really there will be tons to do!
have a great time!

Two places I suggest are Madame Tussaud's wax museum on 42nd Street ant the Empire State Building.I went to them on my first trip to NYC and loved them. You might also want to take the Broadway Open House tour.It is a wealth of information and a fun 2 hours. You can get tickets at the 42nd Street information center a few doors down from the Palace Theater.

The Toys R Us in Times Square is so great because it's four (five?) stories of toys, with lots of fun stuff (Jurassic Park roaring/moving dinosaur, Lego buildings, two story Barbie 'house,' etc.) that 'regular' Toys R Us stores don't have.

And then there's the ferris wheel in the middle of the store: http://www.coasterimage.com/features/toysrustimessquare/toysrus01.htm

I avoid the place during the holiday season, but the rest of the year it's fun to just wander through.

Oh- and, they're super cheesy, but I love the red double decker bus tours too, especially the 'nighttime loop' one where you see the city at night.

OK if you're into toys then you totally have to add FAO Schwarz and the Disney Store too (Disney Store in NYC is larger than a 'regular' Disney Store- and I think it might actually be called World of Disney, not Disney Store- when the little sis was heavily into her Disney Princesses phase we went there twice in one day once).

If you are looking for an aquarium and are with a younger kid try to take a trip into Brooklyn and hit Coney Island! Aquarium, beach, boardwalk, and of course the original Nathan's, plus rides for kids. Its a bit of a ride but the subway can take you right there!

There's Coney Island & Brighton Beach - both in Brooklyn. But they're really cold in March.

If you're in a really "Rent-y" mood go to the Life Cafe and Tompkins Square Park and what not. Although it's not nearly as gritty as it was "back in the day" (read: a bunch of NYU hipsters).

SoHo is fun for seeing sort of artsy stuff on the streets and there is some good shopping there. I love the Lower East Side (Orchard, Essex, etc) because there's some "Old World New York" there like pickle shops and stuff and the best gelato in town (Il Laboratorio on Orchard Street by the Tenement Museum).

A lot of what's in NY you can find elsewhere but in NY it's bigger. We have the biggest Macy's (34th), the biggest Barnes & Noble, the biggest Toys 'R' Us, biggest Virgin Megastore. You get it.

Also, since you're in high school, visit www.highfivetix.org. They have tickets to events for $5 apiece (sometimes off-B'way & B'way shows and also dance performances like NYC Ballet and Alvin Ailey & other theatre stuff). And you can get tickets for your chaperone as well.

Feel free to PM me if you need any suggestions. But one thing is certain - be sure to get out of Times Square when you're there - there's so much more of the city to see!

i guess it depends on how hard you try to stalk him... i've lived in the city for almost 4 years now and have never "seen him on the street" but his book will be new so maybe there will be some events for it after the feb 21st book signing
