That's a bit harsh. I bet completists want an album made, too, though I can't really think of another reason for it.

Are you related to Liam by any chance?

It's weird. Every post I read by you has to do with cast albums and how they should get made. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy cast recordings as much as the next Broadway fan but I think we get your point.

ok, while i believe in the creation of cast albums along with you i do not believe we need a thread like this for every single show.

Not to mention it is the definition of preaching to the choir.

I, for one, would like a cast album... I am such a completist... as evidenced by my 362 and growing musical theater CD collection.
A cast "ablum" on the other hand...

I have to agree. I know you're entitled to your opinion, but it seems all you talk about is that a cast recording should get made or else it will "fade into the sunset". I looked at your profile, and you already said numerous times how a GV album should be made. We get it already! I'm with melissa errico and Caroline-Q on this one.

I don't know. Feel free to disagree with me, but for jukebox shows, it strikes me that the group or artist's greatest hits is a more authentic and definitive representation of the music than any cast album could be. If you like Movin Out, Billy Joel does a better version of himself on his greatest hits volumes one and two than Michael Cavenaugh's cover version of him; if you like, Mamma Mia, buy ABBA GOLD; and if you like Good Vibrations, the OBC can never hope to be in the same league on a cast album as original band was able to sound due to Brian Wilson's genius in the studio with overlaying harmonies and sonic effects.

I just don't see the point of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to record Broadway people doing inferior covers of pop/rock originals when the original versions are so readily available and there are so many original shows with original music that don't get recorded.

This cast album has as much chance of happening as one for Dracula

If they won't do one for la Cage, they certainly will not do one for a critically lambasted show like this - Beach Boys or no Beach Boys

And the people who like Beach Boys music prefer to hear it sung by the Beach Boys, not a bunch of Broadway actors trying to imitate them (and not succeeding).

Good point & another reason why no CD for GV

I agree, Margo- one of the things that differentiates a lot of rock from musical theater is that the album version is usually considered the "definitive" version. The song is attached to the artist, especially when they're in the singer-songwriter mold.

Good points, Margo. My mother, being a Billy Joel fan, said she perfers Billy Joel to my Movin' Out cast recording; she likes the originals better. Me? I'm not a Billy Joel fan, I don't care...I just buy the cast recordings.

DRACULA should have a CD made, if only to preserve its music and nothing more. GOOD VIBRATIONS should have closed opening night, and they definitely should not record a CD - it's just abominable.
