Posted: 8/8/04 at 8:06pmDoes anyone know if they will redo the movie Hairspray with its success on broadway? I thought i read some where it was but i don't remember!

I think there are plans to turn the musical into a movie.
I see no problem with that. They're doing the same thing with The Producers, which was a comedy classic way before it was a record-breaking musical. I think a movie musical of Hairspray would be fabulous, and different enough from the original movie for them to be seen as two separate works.

I thought I read recently that Winoker was in negotiations for the lead in the film?
They film in 2006, I believe (if they can get all the production setup, seems to be in la-la right now).

Posted: 8/8/04 at 9:39pmyeah i thought that they were also making the musical into a movie. harvey and marissa were making negotiations on starring. i love the original movie, so i can't wait until this one gets started.

Posted: 8/8/04 at 10:00pmremaking both of the movies mentioned would/ will be a good idea in my book. Especially so people will stop being so confused at my local target store (they keep the originals of both of these movies in the musicals section)

Posted: 8/8/04 at 10:48pmI searched for Hairspray on IMDb, and the only result was the original film. So, this means that right now, there are only rumors, the project hasn't been formally announced. And the OBC has to be in it lol.

I cringed when I read the word "soundtrack" - then realized it's in the right context this time
