the original broadway production of harvey starring elwood dowd and directed by antoinette (godmama of the tony) perry opened on nov. 1st, 1944 and ran for 1775 performances at the 48th street theatre.

Harvey by Mary Chase is an American comedy semi-classic. It is a sweet fantasy about a man and his friendship with a six foot tall rabbit much to the consternation of his family.

The film is a faithful reproduction of the play and is rentable. The role is a signature role for James Stewart and Josephine Hull in one of her three movies, won a supporting Oscar.

What bothers me is that you didn't head for the library first to read it, read about it and then ask us for further information.

I read every play I could get my hands on--good, bad and a lot of in between. If I saw a list of Pulitzer Prize winners (and Harvey did win the Pulitzer) and a play I'd heard of was listed, I went out of my way to find it. This may explain reading Strange Interlude when I was 12, doing a book report on Mother Courage in 8th grade and a senior paper on Pinter before the teachers knew who Pinter was.

Harvey ought to be easy to find. Ask the librarian.
