Posted: 6/11/05 at 9:10pmAnd it's not that "The Plymouth" was such a great name, but when Arthur Miller, Oscar Hammerstein II, Tennessee Williams, Stephen Sondheim, George Abbott, Hal Prince, Ethel Merman, Julie Harris, Edward Albee, George M. Cohan, Tandy & Cronan, Uta Hagen, David Merrick, Alexander Cohen, Jerome Robbins, Michael Bennnett, Bob Fosse and so many others have no theatre named in their honor, it's rather outrageous for the Shubert Organization to rename two theatres (the Royale was renamed for Bernie Jacobs) after a couple of Shubert administrators who were old pals of theirs. It's not that the two gentlemen made no contribution to the history of Broadway (they did), but their influence and accomplishments PALE in comparison to any one of several dozen other theatrical luminaries.

Posted: 6/11/05 at 9:11pmWell, you can stick to the Plymouth. But you've been warned. I still call the Continental Arena (in N.J.) the Brendan Byrne Arena, which it hasn't been for five years. I'm starting to get curious looks.

Posted: 6/11/05 at 9:27pmHell, I just recently came to terms with the fact that the Alvin is now the Neil Simon...

The Alvin is the WHAT now??
And middy, are you sure that's why you're getting those looks?
re: has a new tenant for the Schoenfeld been announced?#11
Posted: 6/11/05 at 9:36pmThe fact that Neil Simon has a theatre and Arthur Miller doesn't really frightens me.

Posted: 6/11/05 at 9:37pmIs it just a coincidence that the composers name is also Schoenfeld? --- the same name as the theatre...

Never bothered committing the name of Brooklyn's composer to memory (I'm still trying to forget that the show ever existed).
Coincidence.

Word is a full-scale revival of CARRIE will be moving in after Brooklyn leaves the building. Opening night is Halloween. Betty Buckley will be re-creating her tour-de-force as Margaret White, Kristen Cheno & Idina Menzel will alternate the title role, and Wing will be 'WOWING' em as Ms Gardner.
Yeah.....right, I know, but leave me my dreams!
