Posted: 5/26/05 at 1:41amwell, shakespeare originally intended it as a sub-plot, but it ended up dominating the play, so most productions place far greater emphasis on this far more interesting relationship than the Hero/Claudio and bad guy don john thing. Beatrice and Benedick are far more interesting characters
