I have both and they are apples and oranges...
I LOVE the new recording because of the finale especially.. but the 1999 tour cast has Gavinator.. so.....

which version of the teachers argument do you like???
I have/have heard all of them, and overall Fame on 42nd Street is the best one, in my opinion.

overall Fame on 42....... but you still have to get the 1999 cast because of the gavinator.. he sings circles around Chris J. Hanke
I definitely agree with you, BroadwayMan2. Gavin is much better than Chris.
Get the Fame on 42nd St. recording for "The Teacher's Argument".
I'm sorry to say i hated the show. The cast are talented but the music is a mess.
I would buy the soundtrack of the film as it has better music.

I have not seen the newest production, and I don't have the album for it, but I DO have the one with Gavin and I enjoy it very much...I listen to #16 over and over...I love when Gavin goes, "The way I know I'll ALWAYS feel about yooooooou..."
Best part:
Gavin: (Nick) You'll probably go off to Brooklyn College and meet some guy and forget all about me...
Serena: You'll probably go off to New Haven and meet some guy and forget all about me!
Gavin: Haha, very funny! (little chuckle.)
He's just the cutest thing in the world. I love his voice.

I shall give you the same advice a friend of mine gave me....buy the newest, most times they are better..and sound more full. Some people do prefer originals, like myself so I usually borrow the new version and decide.
