Looking for stuff that's not overdone? How about these (if you can find the sheet, that is)
Look in to "The Boy Friend"- yeah, it's silly, but there are some fun all-guy and all-girl group numbers in it.
"Girls of the Night" from J&H (complete work)- beautiful song, but kinda short, could maybe be done in combo with the second act song the prostitutes sing in Les Mis? (sorry, the title escapes me and my CD is at work at the moment)
There are some good guy numbers in the "Soldier's Gossip" songs in "Passion"- (harmonies at end could be challenging, depending on talent level)
"Spamalot"- Almost ALL for guys
For the girls- I'm not Getting Married Today from "Company"- patter song with possible shared solos and "church choir" interludes.
If you want some solo numbers that can be shared-
"City of Angels" (terribly clever lyrics),
"Grand Hotel" (esp. Villa on a Hill for altos, I Waltz Alone for men)
"EFX"- (yeah, I know it was (is?) a Vegas show, but I like the music and would love to have seen it live)
"Two By Two"- good sings for both guys and girls (esp "Goodbye Old Girl" for the guys and "Something Isn't There" for the girls)
Finally- one of my favorite shows (which I have never seen, and I don't think there is even a cast recording of but will convince someone to let me direct one day)- "Liars & Legends" . It is a musical revue sort of thing written with the story songs of Harry Chapin. It's written to be sung with multiple solos in some songs.
Hope these help...
