Dude, you're gonna have to provide us with a BIT more information if you expect help.
Role you're auditioning for? Musical? Voice part? Age?
Come on now...

That's all that really needs to be said?
Okay. Now WATCH how many responses you get. Dick.

Jeez, munk, take your negativity elsewhere.
I think "Bill" from Show Boat would be perfect.

Well, if that is all that really needs to be said, then how many folks are going to try and actually respond to your question?
A certain level of detail and description on whether you are looking at something like Hedwig, or Rent, or musical adaption of Sid and Nancy (which for all I know might exist), coupled with a description of your basic singing skills might have helped.
Given the vast amount of info you have not provided, who knows what to suggest. The Clash? Pearl Jam? Foo Fighters, Early Police??? Or, are they looking for songs from actual shows?

Given that you're most likely auditioning for Spring Awakening, I'd say just to research it. Try the iTunes music store, search for the genre of indie/rock, listen to the preview, and see if it sounds like a good fit. There are tons of choices out there.
Also, if it is Spring Awakening, I'd say not to sing "Barely Breathing". I'm sure Duncan heard a million kids try to sing that in their audition to try to impress him.

well, the only reason i said duncan sheik is because i could play my acoustic guitar, and i thought that might be fun.
as for everyone just on here talking nonsense...i was just asking a simple question from my peers, and if you didnt agree with something, just dont reply? sorry if i upset anyone.

That's a very broad topic.
Um. Try "Whistle for the Choir" by the Fratellis, maybe?

If you have power in your voice, I'd suggest anything by Nickleback ("Hero", for example, the one they wrote for the first Spiderman movie) -- or if you're feeling retro, Hootie and the Blowfish. Both groups have songs that are heavy duty.
And for the people with attitude, get over yourselves, folk. If the question is "too vague" for you, dont bother answering. There's absolutely no point in trashing someone's request just because you happen to be ignorant in the subject.

I would suggest not bringing the guitar unless you are auditioning for the band. There will be an accompanist provided for your vocal.

i was also thinking maybe some ben folds (Fred Jones Pt. 2) or ben folds five (Brick)
perhaps.

Ah how I love the Ben Folds, and Fred Jones Pt. 2 is a truly great song. I would think auditioning to Ben Folds would be quite an original choice as well.
On the Ben Folds note, he is the support on John Mayer's summer tour. What an amazing time that will be.

Duncan Sheik hasa number though I find him pretty Pop (I know i'll get osme complaints there--I'm a huge fan!)
How about Hands Down by Dashboard Confessional? It really works well with just vocal and guitar.
Here's a video of the acoustic version (jesus Youtube has like dozens of videos of people on their webcams singing this...) Shows off the voice well, is a good song which is pretty instant and I think the lyrics can be sung in such a way to show you can deliver telling a story thru singing
