Do they actually have body hair, or were Brazilians popular in this version of the 1960s?

From what I could tell, they were pretty Hair-less in that department.

To answer the title of the thread, yes. I paid $80 with a broadwaybox discount for the front row and it was entirely worth it.

"I've seen WEST SIDE STORY three times so far and was neither disappointed nor bored. The show is wonderful.

...back to the topic at hand...is HAIR worth the money? No!"

To the original poster, go see Hair and form your own opinion! Obviously there are going to be some people who don't like the show and tell you to avoid seeing it. If you have any interest in seeing it whatsoever, go, because you might be missing out on what you would consider the show of the year. On the other hand, you might come out having an awful time, but at least you won't be wondering about it and regretting it if it closes before you see it.

Absolutely. If you can afford it, GO SEE IT. I would go back in a heart beat. Too bad I am at school half way across the country. I will definitely be making a trip to see it again when I am home over the summer though. Worth every penny.

to Yankeefan007:

to answer your question: i dont know if they all had brazillians, but acording to my friend allison case, had no pubic hair at all. to phrase it the way he did "i still dont know if shes a natural red head cause there was no hair below the waist"

now you know.....

I saw Hair last night and I have to say it was one of the best things I have ever seen. It wasnt just a show, it was an experience. I highly recommend this show. I have yet to see the WSS revival but I cant imagine walking away from that show feeling anything like I felt leaving Hair. I didnt want it to end. GO SEE THIS SHOW!

OMG can we please avoid these pubic hair comments? You sound like a bunch of horny teenagers. The nudity is NOT the reason to see this show...if it's your ONLY reason for seeing it...stay home and download porn.

if you honestly think some of us saw hair SOLELY because there is a nude scene in it, your just trying to be annoying. why can't it be talked about? if you dont like talking about pubic hair then stop reading this thread. its not like they're being childish like HAHAHA! NAKED PEOPLE! PUBIC HAIRS! they're saying that if they really are "hippies" they would not have been shaved down there. i thought the nude scene was done very well. i sat front row and yea everyone did look pretty shaved.

It bothers me because people obviously are more concerned with the the length of the someone's pubic hair rather than the meaning of the scene. Maybe Diane Paulus left it up to the actors whether or not to landscape that area. My god people just seem obsessed with it. Stop staring at one person's va-jay-jay and take in the the beautiful bodies in protest. And for the record, since the characters in HAiR are given very little backstory...maybe her character does it for a reason. Why don't you just go right up to Allison Case herself and ask her...oh right, that would be rude....well so is discussing the length of her pubic hair in a Broadway discussion board...

not to be rude to the guy before, but for my part, the guy asked if allison case had any pubic hair, and i said from what i can tell shes fully shaved. its really not that big a deal. and when someone points out that the issues with pubic hair and time line accuracy everyone gets all offended. same thing happend when anna camp appeared in equus fully shaved.

some people just think that it should be as accuarate as possible, thats all. when hippies are running around perfectly groomed it doesnt look right.

but then again the sarcastic person in me does want to say, allison case shaves.. no landing strip, no nothing... quick stop the presses, a 20 something girl is fully shaved!!!.. lol is it really that shocking?

Maybe they are shaved for "medical" reasons.
There was a lot of that going around in the 60's also.

When I saw the show, she wasn't shaved.

As Zappa put it so beautifully in Concentration Moon;

Wish I were back in the alley,
With all of my friends still running free.
Hair growing out every hole in me.

are you guys talking about the right person? allison case is the redhead right?
i was in the front row, and unless im going blind, shes not shaved AT ALL. in fact it turned into a joke because my fiance saw the poster for the show and said that girl has such prertty red hair and does she dye it for the performance, and i said i dont know, and then durring the nude scene she said "nope its not dyed"

she had a full pubic hair from what i saw, and it was quite red, so i dont know what you guys are talking about her being shaved? am i crazy here or did anyone else see that?

"i have a straight friend who went, and belive me all he talked about is how allison case is in a play called hair, about people who are supposed to be hippies, but shes shaved."

A hippie with a landing strip? Too funny!

The problem with Anna Camp in EQUUS was when he looked at her and said "you're hairy."

The problem with shaving in HAIR is that the play is called HAIR, not BALD (that's what the sequel, set in 2009, would be called).

My biggest problem with the Central Park production was the lack of griminess, from costumes to well...perfectly sculpted bodies.

The first time I saw the show I did take the scene in for what it was. A beautiful scene. The second time I saw it I was a little farther back in the orchestra so I couldn't fully see but the majority looked pretty shaved. Kk44 that's a funny story about ms. case. I actually remember looking at her but she was kinda laying down so I didn't have a good view of her.

We obviously mean no disrespect to the cast talking about their pubic hair. They're naked onstage. That is obviously going to be a talked about topic of the show. And this is something that pertains to the story I think its a good topic.

i completly agree with yay_gerb, they signed up to appear nude on stage, its an element in the show. and its a show about hippies. plus they arent exactly shy about the nudity aspect of the show, they posed naked in a magazine if i recally.

but i did get a decent look at allison like i said, and unles i am totally blind, shes not one of the ones whos shaved. correct me if im wrong.

You aren't dreaming...
Allison was not shaved when I saw it, and it was noticeable.

ok thanks CSonBroadway, i knew i wasnt crazy, in fact if anyones wondering, im pretty sure she was the only one there to take the "time frame" accuratly. she was fully un-shaved in fact.

I saw it and it was a beautiful performance! I really hope you all go see it. The costumes were amazing, and the whole thing was so energetic and fun! I havent had so much fun on broadway in a long long time. I think it was better than the central park version. The music was so great! I can't wait for the recording.

And just to chime in with a woman's perspective, I sat right up front, second row, and yes you're all correct, the beautiful Ms. Case does not shave her pubic hair at all, and she has real breasts too! Aren't you boys horrified, a real woman!!

She, more than any of the rest of the female cast really transported me back to the 70's with her appearance. In fact in the nude scene she reminded me of an even earlier time. I'm an artist by trade and her nude tableau was really striking to me, the contrast of her milky white skin being broken up only by the shock of long bright red hair and bright red pubic hair, it makes her look very much like a classic Renaissance nude. Breath-taking in my opinion. Perfect for the part. Ok, there's your artist/womans perspective.

ok thanks guys, it seems the concensus is go see it, so ive bought tickets.

does anyone know what song will be playing durring the nude scene at the end of act 1? that way i can take my younger brother and just make him cover his eyes for that. it's just a short scene right?

It is during " Where Do I go?" The nudity only lasts for about 30 seconds.
