A monologue?

From Les Miz?

Was it from the novel?

Wait... why would an audition for Les Mis require a monologue? Some director is just setting him/herself up to be annoyed.

People,
There are other versions of Les Mis besides the musical!

(But if it is the musical, why in hell would someone want you to do a monologue????)

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Probably to see if the person can act.

Because a lot of Les Mis is dialogue set to music...
