so i just recently bought the Jersey Boys cast recording...and John Lloyd Young's representation of Frankie Valli is amazing. My mom couldn't hear a different, besides quality of the music, and she grew up with the four seasons.
JLY gets my tony vote!

My mom loves seeing Jersey Boys. Whenever I take her to see shows more than once, she complains, but she's always bugging me to go see Jersey Boys again.

Omg. Where to beging.. My aunt accidently bought 3 tickets to see DRS. My mom didn't want to go, I literally dragged her up the stairs. But she really loved it. She would NOT see Wicked again. Or Rent.
Now my mom's always like "Ok, it's a saturday, let's see Jersey Boys!" I'm like, their sold out. She asks me every week.
And if Fiddler On The Roof was still open she'd begg me to see that AGAIN for the 3rd time with her.

I bought the cast recording of Jersey Boys before I saw the show. My friends so it and since I love the music of the Four Seasons, I decided to buy it. I have a CD of The Four Seasons greatest hits and the cd of Jersey Boys and let me tell you, the harmony from Jersey Boys is ten times better. I will be seeing Jersey Boys this Thursday as a birthday gift..........
When I played the recording for my dad, and prior to "Ragdoll" where the boys rae introduced as the "Original Four Seasons," My dad was like, "Wow! This is great sound quality for a song this old!" He thought that the boys were really the Four Seasons!
Really? I can definitely tell the difference, and that's actually one of the reasons I love the JB cast recording: it stays faithful to the original, while creating its own sound at the same time. I love Frankie Valli's falsetto, and JLY's, but I think JLY's is a bit raspier sounding (and I don't mean that in a bad way!).
Yes, I cantell the difference as well, however to someone who grew up listening to the Four Seasons and hasn't encountered them for say 10 years, it might meld together. (This is the case with many of the viewers)
It's BeatleMania all over again
With modern technology they can sound like anything.
I prefer the originals.
My Mom also gave the show the Mom-seal-of-approval. She loved it.
Normally, if I was to crave a Frankie Valli fix, I would listen to the original -- that is, my Frankie Valli CD, not the cast recording. But I like the cast recording for the narration. It's a nice way to re-visit the show.
