Posted: 5/4/06 at 10:47pmI would go back and pay another $111.25 to see Federer in the role. I imagine she's probably under rehearsed, but the play and this production would soar with someone else in the lead.

Based on what I heard last night theatregoers might enjoy Julia Roberts' understudy. They've been walking out on Roberts. But I imagine those are real theatre-goers and not Roberts' fans

Posted: 5/4/06 at 11:12pmI am a real theatre-goer and enjoyed Julia's performance. Even if I didn't, I think that is so rude to walk out of a show.

I'm going to bet that people are more likely to walk out because the play isn't their cup of tea than over Julia's performance. She isn't bad. She just isn't Broadway level in it. And Paul and Bradley's performances are very good.
And, it's not rude to leave at intermission---it's your right.

I thought it was Murney too.
Excuse my ignorance, but I was under the impression that understudies had to go on at least once or something? Like I thought they were contracted to perform the role at least once during the run? Did I just make this up? Or did I misread something.

No, they don't have to. I can think of a few people who understudied stars and non-stars in various shows, who never went on.
Like any of Hugh Jackman's standbys/understudies.

Posted: 5/4/06 at 11:51pmI understand that it's one's right to leave, I just can't imagine doing that unless I was really offended or something. Especially if I spent money on it. Though, I suppose some people don't have to worry about that.

Posted: 5/4/06 at 11:55pmHonestly I was never that impressed with Julia Roberts on screen. She was always good ,but never amazing. I can see how that might come through a little weird on stage. I though we were talking about Julia Murney too! This is a huge disappointment.

I would be SHOCKED if the performance wasn't cancelled if Julia was out. Even though Jackman and Connick have/had u/s's and standby's, performances were/are always cancelled when they were out. Roberts is probably an even bigger star. I think they would just cut their losses rather than survive the (presumably) more than 90% refundage that would be going on.
not a comment on Federer's talent at all, nor on Roberts, just a comment on her star power.
