Dear l - I know, I am not your mother but it is Mother's Day so here goes. The etiquette on this board favors a single meaningful thread expressing your adoration for all things Legally Blonde, rather than multiple single line non-substantive posts. You will receive greater respect for your thoughts if you can express them. Thanks! And welcome to the board - you will learn a lot here if you give it a chance.

Welcome to the boards lwoods. re: laura bell bundy, musical performance of the year

As a newcomer myself; may I offer a couple of suggestions I found helpful? Please don't take any of this personally.

1. The first thing I do before initiating a thread is utilize the 'search' feature. There are other threads on the board where you could have regurgitated this sentiment without starting another thread.

2. I have found that the people on this board are apt to be more respectful of your opinion if you can express your reasoning. Yes it appears to get heated, personal, and at times insulting, but that will happen when folks feel strongly about something.

3. Bear in mind these threads are discussionary in nature, we need to know your rational in order to discuss or relate to your topic. So hey, tell us what you're thinking! re: laura bell bundy, musical performance of the year

4. Stroll around the boards and through the threads, familiarize yourself with the topics and how they're presented; knowing how to present your topic will give you the maximum discussion potential, assuming it isn't an oft repeated thread, hence the 'search' feature. Also familiarize yourself with the posters as there are a variety of writing styles, temperments, and personalities posting on the boards.

I think you'll get much more from your experience here if you'll try these simple suggestions than if you start a thread such as this one. The bottom line is we are all theatre lovers here and we come together to delight in, agree, disagree, and discuss our theatical experiences with people who share the same love of theatre as ourselves. But you have to give us something to talk about.

Lecture over. Take it for what it is, helpful hints from a relative newcomer to a newcomer. re: laura bell bundy, musical performance of the year

Back on-topic.

Laura Bell Bundy is a wonderfully talented young woman but as of yet, untapped and undeveloped as an actress. My own opinion is that she will grow into a prime talent on Broadway. Her performance in LB has an exuberance about it and she takes it as far as the material will let her, but certainly it can't be considered the musical performance of the year. This would mean she rose above a seriouly flawed show onto a higher plane. What I saw was someone who admirably gave it her absolute all but was still held back by the material. I have no doubt she will one day be able to make something out of relatively nothing, but this year, with LB, it doesn't happen.

Then again, lwoods could be someone who really hates Legally Blonde or Laura Bell Bundy and wants to make everyone else hate the show and its lead, too.

StageFan2, you forgot one suggestion:

5. There are many people on this board who hate Legally Blonde and Disney shows, so there is no use saying that they're good because you'll get jumped by 200 angry Spring Awakening fans and then you'll be Totally F*****(just kidding)

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
--Aristotle
