leap of faith

Thanks, Hest882, for a rational description of the differences between LA and NY. I initially resisted the framing device, but now that I have seen it a couple of times, I understand and approve of the mechanism. As each character steps away from the story and addresses the audience, he/she tells the audience something that could not be said to the other characters. Example: Ida Mae introduces the song "LOST" by saying to us that she knows how much she trims the truth when dealing with people she loves and how they do the same, and now they have all lost their way but she doesn't know what to do about it. She could just do a monologue, I suppose, but instead she reaches out and brings the audience into her confidence. It has an intimacy that helps the story rather than hinders it.

Ugh...going tonite. How many glasses of wine do I need beforehand?
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."

"In Oz, the verb is douchifizzation." PRS

At least two to start! And bring some along. Raul's character actually encouraged the "sippy cups" after the intermission.

"actually" Raul's character calls people who bought the "sippy cups" suckers, but whatever.

Well doodlenyc, from my experience if you go in not wanting to like a show you will not like it. Yep, I'm willing to be in the minority and proudly proclaim my enjoyment of this show. Who knows, maybe you'll surprise yourself and actually like it, but it will only happen if you give yourself permission to be surprised.

Clearly I am a newbie here, but so far Brantley agreed with me on Newsies and Nice Work, so here's to hoping he agrees with me on Leap of Faith. I'm going again tonight so I can see all of the changes. So excited!

Thanks, bookofmel. I'm in that "minority" of people who think there is something worth seeing in LEAP. I will be there tonight, too.

"I don't know where you get your info for Piazza, but Guettel and Lucas began collaborating on it in fall of 2001 and it played its first production in June 2003 in more or less the same version that came to Lincoln Center. 7 years is way wrong."

See this article:

I was at that concert. I think at the time, as mentioned by another poster, Guettel was working on it with Alfred Uhry (though I'm not going to say I'm positive about that).
