I have never seen the show before, but I know quite a few of the songs. Do I need to read the synopsis before the performance to understand the story?

It would probably help, but I think you will be fine even if you haven't seen it and don't know the story. Enjoy!

I would. Also, there were parts of the show that went really fast and were hard to understand, so pay close attention to what they're saying.

Just saw this in Fort Lauderdale and it's amazing! Yes there were parts where you had to pay extremely close attention.

I was in the student edition this summer as Thenardier and we provided a synopsis in the back of the program. I kept hearing from patrons that it helped them as the show moves so quickly. I'm also seeing the tour in Chicago. Can't wait! Enjoy your first Les Miz!
