i'm really astounded that the only nominations dessa rose picked up were for it's lighting and sound... it wasn't nominated against lone star love and junie b jones? i understand it has major competition with spelling bee and altar boyz. but really? and neither of the leading women got a nomination? i'm baffled.

Shame on them! LaChanze and rachel York gave two of the best performances i've ever seen! Cross your fingures that Drama Desk gets it right.

I agree completely! LaChanze and Rachel York were exquisite. And what about Graciela Daniele for her direction? And Norm Lewis and Kecia Lewis as featured actors? Plus the orchestration and the score? The dismissive attitude toward the wonderful aspects of this production based on problems people have with the book borders on criminal.
