You are the best PENNY ever! Diana (newbie)is no comparison for the talent and radiance you have while on stage.
As a paying repeat customer for Hairspray, I would always come back to see TRACY, she stole the show!! BEST WISHES
You will be Missed- XOXO
diana was great so i dont know what your talking about. i saw her opening night and she was great then so i imagine shed just get better
she might be great but tracy was HILARIOUS and amazing and nobody can replace her, LBH. (Let's. Be. Honest.) :)
But it also took Tracy time to get into her groove as well. I remember when she first joined the company, and people were saying the same thing. It takes time to settle into a role and find the various nuances that exist within the character.

I totally agree with sproutie!!! obiviously Crazy4MattMorrison really is crazy or just has really bad taste Tracy Miller was the best Penny. Of Course you have to give diana a chance to prove herself but I have seen her show and so far she is a knock off of Tracy. I know it will take time for diana to settle into the role and I know people said the same thing about Tracy, But at least Tracy worked her way up the ladder like everyone else has on broadway. Diana Dosent know what hard work is yet because it was handed on a platter to her.

Diana has worked plenty hard in order to play the part. Just because she happens to be known that doesnt mean she's not good. Yes, Tracy was a fantastic Penny, I will always adore the way she played the role, but that doesnt mean that no one who comes after her can be any good.

I have all the respect in the world for Tracy Miller but it's classless to tear Diana down in order to prop Tracy up. Tracy doesn't need that, her performances stood on their own. She chose to leave, Diana didn't force her out by demanding a role on the show so why the hostility?
Diana hasn't had anything handed to her. She's had tough breaks and hard knocks and has persisted. She earned her role in an audition and even managed to impress some people on opening night. Her doing well is not a threat to the memory of Tracy's performances, it's good for the show. I really hope this Tracy vs Diana thing doesn't persist for the entire time she's on the show.

oh dear... do we REALLY have to have another so-and-so vs so-and-so... we had to watch it with others in the past and it's annoying. plus it's too early to say 1 is better than the other. and yes, Diana worked hard for this... give her some credit
mozer -- thanks for joining today so you could bash someone! It's what we all enjoy the most on this message board.

If ya can't take the heat, get out of the fire!
people can have opinions which may feel like bashing.
DiDi will eventually prove herself just like any green actress has in the past.
But....... I still Love TRACY MILLER!!!!
BTW . . . .
class·less ( P ) Pronunciation Key (klsls) adj.
Lacking social or economic distinctions of class: a classless society.
Belonging to no particular social or economic class.
I guess I don't have to tell you that, though.
sorry im not crazy. i do love tracy miller but diana was pretty damn good. and i only see her getting better. i really hope she doesnt read these boards and see how you guys are treating her just because she was on some reality show.
i still don't see where you're crazy... outside of in your name. i don't see anything in what you said as nuts... you just said she was good and will only get better... which tends to be what happens when someone is in a role for a while...
We all miss and loved Tracy Miller. Agreed? And a couple of people on this thread said that Diana DeGarmo can't compare to TM. Look, I can't even IMAGINE a better Penny than Tracy Miller, but only time will tell how well Diana D. does in the same role. We can't know that now, after just 3 performances!! Will she ever be Tracy Miller? NO, cos she isn't Tracy Miller. Will she ever be as good a Penny as Tracy? We can debate that forever--but not until Diana has some more performances under her belt.
Well, I really have no major opinion on either performer. I didn't see Tracy and I won't be seeing Diana. I just think it's a bit unfair to start a thread supporting one performer but using a slap in the face of another one to make your point. Diana will probably not be getting the time under her belt with HAIRSPRAY that most would because she's doing a short run and then taking off to launch the tour of BROOKLYN. Unless she returns to HAIRSPRAY after the tour, she'll only be doing about 4 months. I think it's a much stronger statement (and less offensive) to say something like "Tracy Miller is an AMAZING singer/actress/dancer who brought Penny's character to life on stage. She was my favorite part of HAIRSPRAY and I'm sad to see her go. I certainly hope to see her originating a role in a new show!!" It makes your point without being disrespectful to anyone.
I haven't seen Diana yet, so I can't comment on her. BUT I have seen Tracy Miller many, many times, and she is an amazing singer, actress, dancer, comedienne, and person. I too hope she comes back to Broadway someday, but for now I wish her all the luck in the world on achieving her current goals, which happen to not be on Broadway. Diana has it really rough following in Tracy's footsteps...I don't envy her. I've heard this word used to describe Tracy many times...genius. I couldn't agree more.

wow, to spend time analyzing and rewriting responses/topics for others must feel very gratifying.
Any actor or actress must deal with daily slander, rumors and horrible reviews. They take it or leave it. They can learn by it and move on.
The general public loves to here about it. It sells! This message is small potatos compared to TV and tabloids.
Cool . . . . Diana's a transsexual and she gave her stuff up so Tracy could become a man. Tracy will be coming back in 6 months to play Link!!!
That should boost ticket sales!
:rolls eyes:
I Agree HBG!!! Tracy was great as penny!! but it was time for her to move on and hopefully Diana will do a good job also.
