any new british musicals on there way? im a big fan of small scale work so if anyone has any info? on that note did anybody see 'into thin air' at the new players? deary me twas bad! hehehe
you hope that there are no new musicals by british writers or no new small scale ones?
Personally i would love to see more small scale stuff in the uk. New York has such a great choice of shows Off- Broadway but in the UK we seem to think of Fringe or off west end theatres as only a spring board.
Smaller scale musicals have less investment which means they have the chance to be more creative and artistic. Granted thats not always the case but its not with commercial musicals either
Bruce why the heck would being small scale mean it is written by some sort of hack?! There is some excellent brit work around at the moment, I personally love the work of Grant Olding
who's grant olding? i love finding new stuff. Im guessing hes british~? Theres a musical coming to The Courtyard Covent Garden in June i think called 'Enchanted'
yes ive been looking and they have a website at www.enchantedthemusical.com (not co.uk thats somthing very different!) the site is just a teaser logo but you can email the webmastyer. it's apparently opening June 12th and running for three weeks. They emailed me a synopsis and it sounds really cool.
sorry i meant literally new british musicals. There are loads of imports but i just wanted to know if there are any new musicals penned by british writers.
i saw a workshop of Enchanted a littl while ago. Its really good. One of the funiest musicals ive seen in awhile. Where'd you hear about it Ulla? Is it deffo coming to the west end?
yes deffo in June for a three week try out. The web site is still under construction but i emailed the webmaster (hehe ive written this so many times now!) and they said the website should be up and running in the close future as soon as casting is completed. they emailed me a synopsis tho. what was the music like when you saw it? i lot may have changed tho i guess.
Sure - I know people have mentioned "Enchanted" which is coming to a theatre in Covent Garden, but bizarrely there's also another musical called Enchanted which is premiering this summer - I'm the co-writer and I'm amazed to see another show with the same titled opening within a month of ours!
If you want details of our show, take a look at www.enchantedthemusical.co.uk - there's a synopsis of the show, some audio clips and other information up there.
hey, yeah i saw a workshop of the production and its brilliant i really loved it. You can contact the team of the other enchanted (lol) at www.enchantedthemusical.com they have recentkly set up a forum and i emailed them. They said there currently doing a shoot for press pictures etc and hopfully a fuller site will be up soon. You can contact them on there.
The musical is all about how there are two worlds the natural and the supernatural and you have a counterpart in each world (i think theyre going for a fun play on the wizard of oz thing)
i cant remember all the names and stuff but basically a prince from the supernatural world gets swapped over with his counterpart in our world who is a soap opera actor. theres a prophecy that basically says that a hero and a great queen from the natural (real) world will save him......its a struggling writer and his gay roomate (great queen) who fufill the prophecy!
The show centres around them as they set out through the kingdom.
There are loads of cool characters along the way ( a disembodied head for one!)
