so, right now on the disney channel is mulan and it strikes me that this would be a much better idea for a new disney musical than little mermaid to me... tarzan, who knows, could be cool... but think of the big broadway return lea salonga could play (she voiced mulan's singing voice in the movie)... the story is good and some of the music is really good too... you could get b.d. in there too... no?

Mulan is being developed for the stage, though not for Broadway. Music Theatre International has a partnership with Disney where they're bringing lots of their films to the stage including Newsies, Mulan, Alladin, The Jungle Book, Hercules and others. Some will be available for Middle Schools, others for High Schools and a few for community theatre.

I really always thought the songs from Mulan were kind of weak, but I did like "a girl worth fighting for". I would like to see what happens if they added new songs.

i still can see it as big, the next b&b starring lea... lord knows she needs something new which will let her be viewed better than just in flower drum... you know?

i also actually think that's a pretty bad move on disney's part... i think business wise it would be wiser for them to let b&b and lion king run out their welcome and then let them go to the community and school theatres while developing new works for new york... that will get them much more money because people will always come to see the disney show in new york, whereas if they just sell it to young groups, they will not be produced well and they will be looked down upon. i think the thing is that disney has the money to give the big, splashy, 'let's make it great' productions of a musical... i think it would make a better name for disney and would earn them more money, and would give us more entertainment on the big stages... this ancestor scene is really funny and could be staged hilariously

I whole-heartedly agree with Mulan. I just think it lends itself great to stage, with the characters and oppurtunities for huge dance numbers (fight scenes). Sure, the score would have to be expanded, but Lion King's and B&tB's scores were also expanded. I just can't see Tarzan or Little Mermaid on Broadway (and I can't really hear Adam singing Phil Collins music, either)

God not another disney movie turned broadway show. I love Lea, she needs to come back! How long did Flower Drum song last?

Hmm I would be very interested to see Mulan on stage. Though I agree that I don't think it will become a huge sensation, I think it'll be a good show nonetheless. Loved the movie and I definitly could see it being adapted to a live show.
