does anyone else think that this would make a truly great disney animated movie... i think that it would be fabulous with the 4 gods in the vein of the greek chorus from hercules and the ancestors from mulan... i think that this show could be so much fun as a movie! anyway, further thoughts?

Well, since OOTI is based on a novel which was essentially a reworking of THE LITTLE MERMAID, it seems a bit redundant.

they're different enough... she's not a mermaid, she doesn't have to give up her voice..
It could work, but the racial lines might be a little too mature for what Disney likes to do. It would be a shame if they changed the story and didn't focus on that like the original story. So it could potentially work, but I doubt it due the content.

well even ahrens and flaherty changed some of the racial lines/lyrics so that the show could be performed by multi-racial companies.
True - I'm directing my high school kids in it right now.
But I think if you're going to do a real adaptation like Disney, you do what's originally written. A/F write that unless you have to use the rewrites, they prefer you don't.

ti moune doesn't have to give up her voice...but she does have to give up her soul....
Right and giving up your soul to the God of death might not be the Disney way...
Jason Alexander has been wanting to produce a big screen version of Once on this Island for years. I think it could work really well as a TV movie too...in the tradition of Annie. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it get that kind of exposure. I just love the show. :)
Now that would be awesome. I would love it if they did that. Do you think they would stay with the racial lines or change it up?
