peters and mendes

I was reading a post below which said there had been some kind of disagreements between Bernadette Peters and Sam Mendes during the Gypsy run. What is supposed to have happened between them ? I have not heard this before.

well everyone had a pretty miserable time doing that show, so its fair to reason that, what with bernadette being more than a little tempramental, tempers did fray at many point during the show. ive also heard reliable whispers that the two of them are far from being the best of friends, so its reasonable that they would not want to work together.

I heard a completely different story. From what I've heard, Mendes and Peters love working with each other.

bp is not nearly well known enough outside of the theatre community to have such a huge part in a film. itll be someone with a name.

what i meant is the studio will demand someone who is better known to the wider public rather than someone who is know only to the theatre community.

I was privvy to a lot of what went on during previews for Gypsy...and I have to disagree with the points asserted here. Bernadette is not known for being tempramental...quite the opposite. Never heard or saw her exhibit diva-like behavior, or be anything less than gracious and striving to do her best. And Mendes kept a cool, clear head throughout all of the brickbats being hurled his way. Drama? Sure, it was stressful for everyone. But between Peters and Mendes? Nary a peep.

You are so wrong. Ms. Peters and Mr. Mendes got along famously, the entire cast got along. In fact the only bad vibes at any time during the entire "Gypsy" process was Mr. Laurents and certainly the people on these message boards.
