Why is it that when someone leaves a broadway show there is always 2 days between their stopping and the replacement starting?

Because the original actor always leaves on the last performance of the week. Generally that is a Sunday, and then the next performance is a Tuesday. The new actor would start on Tuesday.

But a lot of times the understudy plays the part for a few performances
