If COMPANY is on TKTS this weekend, I'll be seeing it.

Ditto for SPRING AWAKENING. Already seen the brilliant GREY GARDENS.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Seeing a show on the list, though, gives no indication of how many tickets they have at TKTS. And being on the TKTS boards doesn't really mean a show is selling at dangerously low levels and that the reviews were useless, or anything like that. In fact, most shows are up there on an average day.

That's true. The Odd Couple was even up there a few times during it's run. I went there one night and saw just about every show on the board (except Wicked and Jersey Boys of course.)

The Odd Couple was on the boards every night of it's extension.

I'm going into the city on Saturday and I'm hoping to get Spring Awakening and Grey Gardens tickets.

Enjoy SPRING AWAKENING & GREY GARDENS, Bill! They're easily the 2 best new shows this season (thus far). Let us know what you think afterward.

If a show has already made it's investment back and has been running many years than TKTS may help it keep running, but if a show is a few weeks or months old and up on the board it is not a good sign.
Go see these shows, Please!

I read TKTS and thought I saw TDF and got excited.

I have yet to see Grey Gardens on TDF yet... :P

How is it such a bad sign? Yes, early in the run one might hope they're selling outrageously well, but the fact is that there could just be a handful of unsold tickets at TKTS. Saying it's a bad sign is assuming that like, half the house is unsold and therefore released to TKTS. It's a way to sell unused tickets the day of a performance. I'm not saying TKTS sales are going to keep these shows running when their runs are so young, but I still don't think that the fact that they're on the boards means they're drowning. Having leftover tickets doesn't automatically mean banking on TKTS to keep it afloat, if that makes sense.

I want people to support great work too, by all means, but I just don't get the "sound the alarms!" sentiment.

"if a show is a few weeks or months old and up on the board it is not a good sign."

Spelling Bee, Piazza, and DRS were all up there and they are having/had healthy runs. Sweeney was up there, Les Mis is up there, there is nothing wrong with being on TKTS.

I was in town last week, and loved the availability of TKTS seats. My Company seats were front row (AA), I obtained row B for Spring Awakening, and row M (center orchestra) for Coast of Utopia. My seats for Little Dog were J on the side. Big Voice has general admission.

It may not be good for the producers, but great for audiences on a budget!
