recycled performances??

What was the deal with the recycled performances to the shows making special returns to the Tony's (ie. The Lion King, and RENT)?? I know they were performing their signature songs, but I felt like I was watching an old tape of the tony awards.

Well, "The Lion King" celebrated its 10th year a few months back, and "Rent" is closing in September, so they wanted to showcase the two shows for those reasons. In terms of performances, I guess they recycled songs, as those are the ones that best identify and define the shows.

Yeah, I knew all about the anniversary's and closings. But I felt like I was watching it all happen again in the 90's. Something could have been different I feel. Like maybe perform "I just can't wait to be king" and the song "Rent" instead of La vie boheme. Or at least Finale B.
