Christmas Bells was cut? The main characters walking past junkies, homeless and prostitutes while singing. I was counting on that song to be the movie antithesis of Annie's "NYC".
Except that "NYC" wasn't in the original Annie movie. They had that god-awful "Let's Go To the Movies" song instead. It wasn't until the TV movie of Annie that they included the song. Er, sorry, touchy issue. So to mention 2 songs that I love being cut from the movies is a bit disheartening, but I understand why.
Okay, this is completely random, but you know how Anthony said many OBC members didn't really love the CR? Wouldn't it be awesome if the movie cast could re-record the entire soundtrack to their standards to be released, even the songs weren't going to be in the movie? That would be awesome.

"Except that "NYC" wasn't in the original Annie movie."
The original was with Victor Garber, Audra McDonald, Kathy Bates, etc. That mess that came before it was "dress rehearsal". That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I think that if you take the ideas from RENT about 'selling out' too far, then it becomes a paradox...the musical was a huge smash on Broadway, the highest goal for a play or musical, and they won lots of awards, recognition, and money... so was that 'selling out'? I don't think Jonathan Larson ever meant that if you get the opportunity to produce your film or record your song or produce your play you shouldn't because the money, awards, and or recognition make you a sell-out or is a betrayal of the Bohemian lifestyle...not to say that I have any legitamite idea of what Larson was thinking.
It helps me to think of it this way:
We have all experienced Rent and, for many of us, its message has been life changing. What about the thousands of people who would never go see a Broadway show or could never afford to see a Broadway show or live in small country towns in Texas where Broadway theatre is about as accessible as Mars? The movie is the only way to spread this amazing message to millions more, spreading the love, friendship, and life that is Rent.

orangeskittles... I really hope that they rerecord some of the original songs that were taken out of the movie. If not, then we have the OBC recording!
great way to think of it rentaholic...

Mooing rocks! I had some great moo-support this past year at Broadway Bears to help auction off the bear I made of Idina as Maureen.
Movie theater mooing might be different, though. It's a different platform, and not as interactive. Many movie-goer's are not theatre fans, and therefor aren't used to the extrovertedness that we all tend to embody. Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to MOO with Maureen on stage, but I don't want to get kicked out of a theater for dumping on someone elses experience. I suppose it's all how they've filmed it, and how it'll be presented.
Moo,
John
