New York City also has street lights, neon signs, car beams, etc. In other words...it's not very dark. It's not like they are singing "Light My Candle" at night in the middle of a barn in Idaho.

Watching the trailer, it's definitely night. There is strong "street light" outside though (which could be there to play up the "Spike Lee's shooting down the street..." line)

cept the whole reason why they are lighting a candle is because the power went out.

If you're referring to Mark and Roger not having blinds on their window as "homeless" then you've got something to learn. Living in an apartment (even one with no heat and a crazy landlord) is not homeless.
