Hi I am new here and am enjoying reading your posts.
I live about 1000 miles away from NYC. A couple of times a year I get an opportunity to travel there for business. I try to make time to see one, two or even three shows while I am there.
I have been appalled at the behavior of people in Broadway theatres. I try very hard to be polite and respectful of others. Not to mention the amount of money that a ticket costs these days. But every single performance I have attended in the last couple of years has involved people around me who think that they are at home watching tv, instead of in a theatre.
My question is: what is the first line of defense? How to handle this behavior. I appreciated the comment from the usher who said, "that's what we're there for" but other than getting up out of my seat in the middle of a performance I cannot see how that will help.
I look forward to your help as I am going to NYC tomorrow and am hoping to see two shows. However, I am already dreading paying a fair amount of money for something that could be destroyed by other people's behavior.
thanks,
ann

I prefer a hankerchief and some chloroform...
All kidding aside, that IS what the ushers are there for! Speak to the offending person first, and if that doesn't work, go to the usher.

My prefered method is The Scarecrow's fear inducing toxin from Batman Begins or The Joker's laughing venom from Batman. Them or the mood slime from Ghostbusters II(lol).
Umm, I try to ignore any rudeness that I see being commited at a theater, but if I can't I try to give them the "Meloni"(the look the Chris Meloni gives on Law and Order:SVU) that or the "Niles"(see Frasier season one finale, "My Coffee with Niles").

Just smack them silly! They deserve it, and the rest of the audience will appreciate it!
