Saw anthony warlow and leslie garrett in concert at the sydney opera house on friday. The man is a god. Every song was orgasmic. Especially Gethsemane. He held "die" for at least 30 seconds.

It was incredible

I'll bet it was fantastic. He has by far one of the best voices.

if only the United States had a leading man like Anthony Warlow. A man with resonance, musicality and a range that is uncomperable. I feel like most of our "leading men" are 26 yr old boy tenor's that like to scream to the heavens. Once, I would like to see a song that dosen't need money notes, because the people singing them can actually connect. Men and Women.
I would like to see Mr. Warlow come to America and show people what performing is all about. Too bad he won't cross the ocean. I guess we will have to keep listening to his cd's.

Hey all. I normally just lurk around here, but I thought I'd post and echo what phantom_tenor said. I saw Anthony on opening night and it was just brilliant.

To answer some questions, he sang well over 10 songs. My favourites were Gethsemane, Anthem, Soliloquy, Empty Chairs and Empty Tables, and the duet from Don Giovanni (Là ci darem la mano).
By himself, he also sang Music Of The Night, This Is The Moment, What Kind of Fool am I and Just In Time/Nobody's Baby. Other duets he performed were All I Ask of You, You And I, The Impossible Dream, When I Fall in Love...
I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Oh and he mentioned the PotO movie briefly. He said he thought it was great.

If it makes you feel better, he probably would've said no anyway. It doesn't sound like he's one to return to that role anytime soon. Or anytime, really.

Oh, and Martin Charnin wrote him a song for the Aussie production of Annie he starred in. Regional productions can use it now, and I saw a Daddy Warbucks pull off that song very well -- but you can tell it was written for Anthony. Wonderful.

Wish the man didn't love his country or his family so much. Why couldn't he have fallen in love with a nice New Jersey gal or with Carolee when they recorded that CD together. Edelman would've understood.

He also sang "Without A Song", from his album Back in the Swing which was basically 3 minutes as close to orgasm as you can get re: saw anthony warlow on friday. .

He was funny and warm, and really knew how to communicate with the audience. Although i was right at the back of the auditorium, he connected in a way that he could have been speaking to me personally.


To anyone else that saw it, what was with the overly fast tempo of "This is the Moment"?

Oh thank god someone else noticed the tempo of "This is the Moment". It was much too fast and the drumming annoyed me to no end. Totally ruined the number IMO, but it was the first song so it didn't bother me too much in the end.

Oooh yes, "Without A Song", that's the one I missed.
They didn't change the program slightly on different nights then? Hmm.
By 'at the back of the auditorium' phantom_tenor, you don't mean actually behind him do you? I can't believe how many people were sitting up behind the stage on opening night.

at least send over a Philip Quast then. we don't do testosterone too well out here, not when it comes to male musical theatre performers.

He is not suitable for Sweeney Todd. He is a tenor-baritone. Sweeney should be a bass-baritone.

He is my dream Anatoly in Chess. Come on, Anthony, blow the house in that brilliant END GAME.
