Hi everyone!
I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I go to a private catholic high school with like no fine arts. I have the choice of going to a public school with a really wonderful theatre program, but it's not highly regarded for it's acedemics. I do community theatre and such. Do you think I'd have a chance of getting into CCM or CMU or any other the other highly regarded musical theatre colleges with a shorter resume than those that go to a crappier school that has 6 shows a year? I hope that question makes since.

Your resume doesn't matter all that much. Everything lies on your audition. If the auditors realize that you have potential and talent that they can use, they will look into accepting you.

Don't let your resume speak for your talent. For all they know, your entire community's theatre could be weak. Use the theatre for experience, rather than resume.

The resume is definitely a factor, but what you do at the audition is really the most important factor. If you're happy with the school you're at, stay there. I wouldn't recommend that you transfer just because you'd get to do MORE shows at another school. It sounds like you're getting stage time in by doing community theatre, which is a great idea. And you probably get more individualized attention with your drama/music teacher at your private school than you would at a much larger public school. So, basically, work on giving a great audition, because that's what's really important in the MT college process, not the length of your resume.

STICK WITH GOOD ACADEMICS!!!

I am not trying to sound rude but remember- There is only a VERY SMALL chance that you will even get into CMU or CCM so keep up with GOOD SCHOOLWORK.

Do A LOT of theatre during the summer, and see if there is any stuff going on during the school year that you can work into your schedual. Talk to those in charge of your school and see if there is a way they can incorporate more theatre, even if it means that YOU are in charge (I was completely in charge of my school's theatre program for two years).
