Hi,
I have never posted here before, but I was wondering if anyone has a some good ideas for college audition contrasting songs. I need an up-tempo that is after 1950 and a ballad that is before 1950. I am looking for contrasting monologues. THank you if you so much for any help you can give.
I am a mezzo, but I have a very wide range. I sing a strong mix up to a high F sharp and I sing down to about a D below middle C.
I am becoming desperate for anything.

for your ballad from before 1950, there is "what good would the moon be" from street scene, that's whta i'm doing. it has 2 high g's at the end, but they're relatively short. it's a really pretty song, and not overly done.
where are you auditioning?

i'm applying to (in priority order) NYU, Yale, ithaca college,Hartt school (Uhartford), Syracuse University, and AMDA ---guys, don't yell. it's last. i know, i've read all the stuff about it. that's why it's last. plus i want somewhere with kickass academics.
good luck with your auditions, and also do a search on college audition songs on bww...someone put up a pretty awesome listing.

You want training and kick ass academics...and you choose AMDA?
You need to look at CCM, Oklahoma City University or U of Michigan. They are real music schools with real academics. I've worked with many national merit finalists who have attended these schools.
