For all of you Broadway die-hards, can you tell me which are the very best female character/dance shoes in your opinion? I notice a difference in the ones that are sold at dance stores and the ones I see on female actors on stage. What gives?
thanks!

well, i've only done community theatre, but i've been dancing for close to eleven years, and i've only worn two brands of character shoes: leo's and so danca. I liked the so danca shoes better b/c the heel was narrower, which worked better with my feet. but leo's has a very good reputation, and their shoes last for a pretty good amount of time.

My female friends swear by La Duca shows...they're used in most, if not all Broadway shows as well.

don't get dance shuz
I HATE those things!! And the sizes are really really weird, so it's like, phisically impossible to find your size.

Was that a fat joke?

So true, Catie! And I've had no luck finding dance stores outside of Manhattan where they have working knowledge of more than one brand. One store even told me just buy up a size and stuff the loose places! Thank goodness someone took me to La Duca-- I don't dance much onstage anymore, but I use them as my default character heels. Even after a two performance day, my feet feel pretty good.
