They listed Dan Fogler and Kevin Chamberlin. They auditioned them but they didn't get cast due to other projects.
I think Shuler Hensley would make a fantastic Shrek, although he'd probably be busy with Young Frankenstein.
And jess, don't worry, Tarzan will be closing within the year. So hopefully Chester will be able to play Donkey.

I agree this project is screaming Dan Fogler. He even has a rock band called 2nd Rate so he's got the right voice quality.
I do not believe either he or Chamberlin ever auditioned. Their names were on the wish list of creative team.
I think the problem is contract would require a one year signing. Chamberlin has an upcoming tv series and Fogler has too many film commitments.
The search goes on...

That's what I read too. But I also read that they had them audition. I could be wrong though...
I don't think Kevin Chamberlin could pull of Shrek's vulgarness (if that's even a word) He's to nice. All of the roles he has played, even the ones where he can be mean (like Amos in Chicago) he seems like a big teddy bear. And I will always see him as Horton in Seussical anyway...sooo...lol.
