It seems no matter how much water I drink before/during performance, my mouth always gets extremely dry. Does anyone have any advice that might help this problem ?
Thanks!~
how about tea? dont know if its much difference to water but maybe?
are you really nervous? cuz my mouth gets really dry when i'm nervous...
if that's the problem the only solution is to NOT get nervous..:)
No, I wouldn't say it's nerves... I remember reading awhile back that Sutton Foster used some kind of candy or something during her shows. Anyone know anything about this?
Too much hot tea dries you out even more.

Some singers use any kind of candy. It doesn't matter what kind. Just something in your mouth to get syliva forming. That sometimes helps.

Cough drops.
Cough drops will do double duty--they'll get you salivating AND help your throat open up.

You really should be careful of menthol though...and anything that sort of numbs the throat like anteseptic (sp) spray.
Use something like Vitamin C drops or something. That should do the trick.
There's something specifically for Dry Mouth as well. I saw it once at Whole Foods and, if I'm not mistaken, it's something like Singer's Salvation.
For ANYTHING mouth-and-throat-and-singing related, I highly recommend Slippery Elm cough drops. There's a REASON they've been making 'em for a hundred and fifty years.
Yes, Brian Stokes Mitchell uses singer's Salvation (that's the nickname for it, I forget it's real name) and it's apparetely a Godsend for singers.
Guaifenesin, the singer's drug. It keeps your vocal cords lubricated when you're trying to get through eight shows a week with a cold or the flu.

Here at Ithaca they always tell us NEVER to drink water before a performance/ audition because it dries you out. Water washes away the saliva in your mouth. Drink apple juice. It has the same PH level as your saliva.
