sondheim songs' titles

that is a list of the name's of each episode of desperate housewives. there is an absurd number of episodes named after sondheim songs. does anyone know why this is? i'm very confused as to why such a popular show is using titles of musical theatre songs (and not very well-known ones) by arguably our greatest composer.
