Problem is Betrayed is not weak but one of the best & most pivotal songs in the whole score
Betrayed can be a tour-de-force onstage but would it work on film?

This is going to be a tough movie to make. The original movie is a classic. The broadway show is a classic. The Original Cast recording is a classic.
I would just love a quality DVD of the stage version with Orignal cast. Now that would be a classic.
I'd also be happy with a good OBC stage version.

Betrayed is definitely not weak- I was just saying that cutting the weak songs in a score is par for the course in movie adaptations of musicals. :)

I think Nathan would walk off the movie if they cut Betrayed. In fact, he only agreed to do the role on Broadway is they added a big solo number for Max in the second act.

I love this score as much as anyone, but in the context of a film some of it doesn't work. They don't just cut songs because they are weak, but they can replace them with a bit of dialogue and visuals. As I'm sure many of you know, this is common in adapting musicals to film.
Ah, another movie musical...what a wonderful world. I can't wait to see this, as I was THRILLED with the OBC. In terms of cuts, I could definitely see the Franz stuff getting trimmed ( it was among the weakest stuff to me) and "Bad Luck/Opening Night."
The Jeff Denman book is marvelous, if you haven't read it - treat yourself.
I would just like to throw out there that while I enjoy some of Kidman's movies, I was EXTREMELY disappointed to hear she is playing Ulla. I mean, come on!
does anyone know what jeffry durnam is doing right now- i hope he is successful, he could at least write another book if nothing else. though i never saw him, i get the impression he is extremely talented- he must be if he was in the OBC of producers and the last cast of cats
and as i said, i agree with you about nicole- i dont she she'll be as good as cady
