I hated the music when I saw the show, but I thought the show was okay. I got the CD, and I adore it. I can't stop listening to it. I think the best songs are (and by best I mean most enjoyable - not exceptional writing)
Come With Me The Song that Goes like This Find Your Grail Always Look on the Bright Side Brave Sir Robin You Won't Succeed on Broadway Diva's Lament His Name is Lancelot ...and the finale
"If you are going to do something, do it well. And leave something witchy."-Charlie Manson
I have to say that I love "Bright Side of Life" Tim Curry style... And the Broadway Song... I kind of love it all... although I don't think Brave Sir Robin was all that great... what played well on a TV screen didn't QUITE translate to stage... it was a little small... But really, I love them all
Without a doubt, for me it is You Won't Succeed On Broadway. It's been a long long time since a showstopping song has literally stopped the show. Loved it.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
Norbert Leo Butz quotes about John Lithgow: "He's really clumsy. One of the joys in life is to watch a great big huge man totally wipe out backstage. It takes John about three minutes to hit the floor. It's like watching a Great Sequoia falling gracelessly."
Love "Diva's Lament" and "The Song that goes Like This"
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
Conan O'Brien
Geez, I love so many of them. "The Song That Goes Like This". "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life". "You Won't Succeed on Broadway". "Diva's Lament". "Find Your Grail".
It might be easier to ask which ones I *don't* like.
Not the "best," but my favorites: Diva's Lament The Song that Goes Like This (and the reprises) You Won't Succeed on Broadway His Name is Lancelot Always Look on the Bright Side of Life Brave Sir Robin and The finale
I'm completely obsessed with "I am Not Dead Yet," and "His Name is Lancelot" (simply because of the laser noises!). I also really love "You Won't Succeed on Broadway," "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life," "Find Your Grail," and "Knights of the Round Table."
Having seen the show and not listened to the CD, the two songs that really stick out in my mind are the Broadway song and thr Finale. Also, as a musician, I was impressed with the orchestrations. The guys in the pit must be having fun with their parts.
And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps...
What did she realize, Kitten?
That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs.
What's wrong with that?
Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had...
Where?
On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.
was listening to this on the subway last night with a friend and Sra Ramirez is just.. WOW. I was shocked at what she does and have found a new diva to listen to.
I must also say that anything involving Sieber gets bonus points in my book. LOVE the Sieber.
