The Broadway recording- with the Black writing and Yellow Backround is a great cast. I was in the show at a Community Theater, and we used that one for rehearsals and listening to learn the music outside of rehearsals. It's a great cast.

i agree, the broadway recording is brilliant.

I'm confused, maybe someone can help....

I love Tommy, it's one of my favorite shows but I thought there was only one recording which is the Broadway cast (yellow and black as someone stated). Is there a London cast or something? I've looked but I thought there was only the Broadway. I know there is a soundtrack for the movie but its very different from the stage production. If there is another cast recording would someone please tell me who's on it and how I can get it!!!

The original studio recording of TOMMY by The Who remains the standard. It was released as a concept LP (remember those) during the period which also brought forth JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, JOSEPH..TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, and EVITA TOMMY was subsequently filmed (by Ken Russell) then subsequently adapted for the stage.

My counsel would be to stick with The Who's original. You can't go wrong at all.

If you are doing the show you must buy the broadway recording. The movie is very very different then the broadway show and the who's recording is also very different. The show is horrendously fun. I performed in it as captain walker about two years ago and had an amazing time. Buy the broadway cast so that you can actually rehearse to correct arrangements

I hope your theater has a lot of money to lose. 'Tommy' costs a fortune to produce and rarely makes the money people assume it will.
