Hi Everbody. Just wanted to let you all know that I went to see tick,tick...Boom! at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta. I love their cast so much. They're absolutely amazing. All three of them are incredibly talented. You should hear the girl who plays Susan! What an incredible voice!
Well, I hope some of you who live around here will get a chance to see it. Hopefully you'll enjoy it just as much as I did.
(It's playing till October 2nd).

Ha xM3L24x, so am I. Haven't been able to get that music out of my head.
Bummer you're so far away though. But I can't say I have any compassion.....lol. NYC is still and will always be the place to be! (Only one more month till I'll finally get to go back there).
And Broadwaystar, have a great evening. You'll probably be back, it's too good to only see once.....

Posted: 9/26/05 at 5:03pmUm, why am I only hearing about this now!?!?!? And here I thought being from Atlanta was the equivalent of living in a Broadway-black hole. D*mn, I wish I had known while I was still home. Oh well, maybe it'll come to Chicago soon...

Emcee, that should be one on your "to-do-list" that won't be too hard to fulfill. I got a couple that might be a little more difficult to arrange...lol.

Posted: 9/26/05 at 6:13pmI'm going this Saturday. I have never been more excited to see a show in Atlanta. GAAAAAAHHHHHHH! I can't wait for Saturday.
#8re: tick, tick ... Boom! in Atlanta
Posted: 9/26/05 at 6:35pmSaw it last Saturday. What the heck is it doing in the Hertz theater, instead of the larger Alliance theater upstairs. Incredible voices. I particularly liked the slowed down, and sexed up version of Green Green Dress. - I wonder if the recording is really of Stephen Sondheim's voice?! Anyone know? And regarding the Black Hole of Theater comment for Atlanta - hey, we had a heck of a version of Chess here a couple of years ago, and the Color Purple Premier (I shall not mention the Aida fiasco)... so it ain't all so theatrically dead here in the south!

I heard about the slow down thing. I heard they did it with 30/90 as well. Does it work? It kind of makes me nervous. I can't wait to see it though.
And for a major city, we are pretty much a black hole. New York, LA, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta. You tell me which one's got the least theatre. But I had no idea we had Chess here a few years ago. That's mildly interesting.

Posted: 9/26/05 at 7:07pm30/90 starts slow, but speeds up to normal speed. The three leads are just amazing. The set is also very good for Hertz Theater standards. The play is totally set up as "The Making of Rent" Pretty cool. I laughed so hard during the "Sunday" scene that I about busted a gut. Grab a copy of Sunday in the Park with George and watch it before you go... it's such a clever homage. C'mon... CHICAGO?? Ana Gasteyer in green paint does not a theater city make. Dad's Garage did servicable jobs with Debbie Does Dallas the Musical and Bat Boy the Musical last year. I think we do pretty well, considering.

Yeah, I mean I know Atlanta's had some good stuff - I was already in college when the Chess and Color Purple things came around, and I'll admit the Aida thing was at the very least cool to have there, regardless of what people thought about it as a show. But when I was there growing up (jeez, that makes me sound so old...this was only 4 years ago) there weren't too many exciting things going on, and if there were, they were definitely under the radar. You really have to search for that kind of stuff in Atlanta, as opposed to being bombarded with it like in NYC or at the very least exposed to it through mainstream media like in Chicago. The theatre section of the AJC is pathetic, as are the reviews.
About Dad's Garage, that was a place that was always consistently good. I didn't make it out there as much as I would have liked, and I would have loved to check out Bat Boy - I guess I left just as Atlanta started to get the hang of things. I'd say it's still got a lot of catching up to do, though.

Posted: 9/26/05 at 9:35pmCan you expand on the set? I always wonder how they do the set? And what were the names of the cast? Is there a website? Wish I had know, i'm in alabama!

Ugh, I'm so excited for y'all, I loved tick tick BOOM!
Speaking of Stephen Sondheim, because Jon never really says his name, I honestly didn't realize who he was talking about until the voicemail at the end. That alone should secure me the lead in the Broadway production of Legally Blonde.

The names of the actors are: Matthew Scott (Jonathan), Soara-Joye Ross (Susan) and Dwayne Clark (Michael).
And about the voice recording, I was wondering the same thing. I will ask next time I usher.
And I LOVE this "Green Dress" version. I wish I could get a recording of them singing it!
I also agree with whoever said that they should have it at the Alliance instead of the Hertz. When I was there tick,tick...Boom, had a full house while Moonlight (which is plainyng at the Alliance right now) had only VERY few people.

Posted: 9/27/05 at 9:40amyay for this! I can't wait. And I didn't just mean the Wicked production in Chicago. It's definetly more expanded than that. Well, I can only hope we're on the rise. But if it's close to selling out, should I get tickets early? I called to get tickets but they were going to service charge me $4 so I just said I would buy them there. Should I just pay the extra to secure a seat?

My guess is that you're probably gonna be allright. Another smart thing to check would be Atlantix. They might have 1/2 price stuff available. Go to www.atlantaperforms.com and sign up for their e-mail update. Even if you can't make it there the day of the performance it's still useful, cause you know that if they have stuff available for a certain show it isn't selling out... -> so you know you can buy it at the boxoffice and save the service charge.
When will you be going? I'm hoping to sign up to usher again sometime this week.

I saw "Tick Tick Boom" on the Hertz Stage a couple weeks back and enjoyed it very much. Jonathan Larsen was quite something, wasn't he? The cast expended tons of energy making this show come alive for the audience in this fairly intimate theatre. "Green Green Dress" was one of the more memorable songs for me.
I'm seeing "Moonlight and Magnolias" on the Alliance Theatre's mainstage tomorrow night.

Posted: 9/27/05 at 3:33pmYessica- I think I am going this Sunday. Either day or night show. Not sure. Are you going to be ushering? I would love to meet you! And thanks for the ticket info. I can't wait to see it.

Posted: 9/27/05 at 3:38pmI think that'll work for me. If I do Sunday I'll probably do both anyways. I don't have a car (I know it's unbelievable, you wouldn't believe all the s*** I get when I tell people....lol) and public transportation is a pain, so I'll probably just stay in the city all day. I'll pm you once I know for sure.
