I need help.
My uni is doing Urinetown next year and I've started looking into it a bit, although I do know nothing about the show. I usually get put in the ingenue roles, and I know that's what Hope is. . .but can anyone tell me about Penelope Pennywise? What her vocal range/ character (comedic??) seems to be? Any info on either character would be GREAT!
Thanks.
Penelope Pennywise is very comedic, though she is somewhat of a harsh character in the beginning. she changes at the end though. it's a good part. i'm not completely sure of her vocal range. i would say that she's a belty alot...but at the end of "privalege to pee" she sings a high C (as in the soprano one). but they may be optional in the music...don't know.

Penny is most definately a strong high belter
She's a matronly "I've been through it all" kind of woman
It's a great role

The three Broadway Penny's of record (Nancy Opel, Victoria Clark, Carolee Carmello), also sang a high C at the end of the number, if I'm not mistaken.
She does belt a G in "Privilege to Pee", though those who saw the tour said that the woman playing Penny sang it in head voice.
well i think it's a mix...that sounds like a belt.
i agree broadwaystar2b, she's definitely one of those i've seen it all kinda women.
