How do you all feel about this.. Say a show has an audition notice in backstage that says POP or ROCK song and you as a person feel more comfortable singing something from EX: TOMMY,HAIR or CHESS do you think the casting people would mind hearing say... 16 bars of "Someone Else's Story" where you can give it your all rather then hearing another Christina Aguilera song? It's just a general question I had on a comfort level of auditions.. I personally feel it shouldn't matter as long as you give it your all and the song fits.. and as long as it sort of falls into that ROCK POP range thing. Please help. Thanks

If they are specifically asking for a rock/pop song, then I would try and find one that would suit your voice. I would assume that if they put a specific "genre" of music on the notice that is what they want. Now, that being said... I wouldn't reccommend Christina Augilera, but try something that fits to the genre... if you want to do a Broadway song, try something from rent? Or just look around for other types of songs... a popish song should be relatively easy to find.

I don't really know if that made sense...
but good luck anyway, kangaroo

While my opinion doesn't count for *beans* because I have nothing to base it on but my own brand of common sense (which should be called uncommon sense...), I would think that singing something from Chess or Mamma Mia would be acceptable. A couple of songs from Chess made the charts, and Mamma Mia, being a juke box musical, is made up of chart-toppers. In the case of the jukebox musical, it's almost like you've got all of your bases covered--it's from a show, but it's pop/rock.

But again, I don't have much hard fact to base my opinion on--take it *very* lightly.

that's kinda hard. I'd stay away from Christina personally, but you could go for something from Hair, I think that'd be a better choice than Chess; being that Someone Elses Story doesn't quite give the feel that they're probably looking for. Good luck!

I agree with you guys, I think Rent and Mamma Mia and any musical with a rock feel to it could work, maybe even Aida, some of the songs in that show have a rock feeling to it.
