?????????????????????
I was waiting to see this actually happen.
anyone else?
I'm pretty sure it's still on. Last I heard, it will be opening fall 2006.
And Glenn Close has officially turned it down.
Victoria Clark or Michele Pawk for Desiree!
some suggestions:
Bernadette Peters as Desiree. (although Victoria Clark would be wonderful)
Judi Dench as Madame Armfeldt.
Randi Graff as Charlotte (terrific in the Kennedy Center production)
Brian Stokes Mitchell as Fredrik
Matt Morrison as Henrik
Peters is wrong for Desiree. Stokes-Mitchell doesn't even make sense. She'd never do it, but Dench is a good idea.
Matthew Morrison for Henrik is a good idea too. After hearing what he is really capable of in Piazza, I'm sure his Later would be incredible.
Lansbury, Lansbury, Lansbury.
Angie as Mdme. Armfeldt.
Okay, I'll scratch Bernadette (sorry guys, just trying to find the poor girl a job). How about Christine Baranaksi as Desiree? And as for Stokes, I'm still in a South Pacific induced haze from last night's Carnegie Hall performance. His 'This Nearly Was Mine' was rapturous.
Landsbury for Armfeldt! That's a perfect idea!
Angela turns 80 this year. Playing the lead in 8 performances a week is very strenuous. But, I agree, it would've been wonderful.
As has been discussed many times, Armfeldt spends her time in a wheelchair, and only really has one big number.
The role is hardly strenuous...
Like Dench she never would agree to do it, but Lansbury would be amazing.
Lansbury !
I would love to see her on stage one more time.
martin..i disagree..bernadette would be perfect. tell me why you dont think she would work..i'm curious.
Dench already did it. I doubt she'd do it again, especially since she's a much bigger star now. I'm sure they'll get some overwrought hollywood "actress" to do it, and make a big stink about it. I saw it with Hayley Mills in Seattle and she SUCKED. It's really not a lead, she only has one real solo, and is part of 2 other songs. I think a commercial run of this show would tank, but more power to them.
Where did you hear that Close turned it down? Part of the reason the revival was delayed for about three years was because of Close's other commitments.
I'd go so far as to say the entire reason the revival was happening at all was because of Close's interest. Indeed, if she's no longer attached, I'd imagine this revival won't happen unless Meryl Streep or Nicole Kidman decide they want to do it.

BobbyBubby, Unfortunately, you are probably right about a commercial B'way production of this tanking. Also, I fear you may be correct about horrible Hollywood casting. Alas, one can smell the coming onslaught of a revival making people ask, "Why is this show so well-regarded?"
