Growing up around it I've always loved it.
But when I saw 'The Lion King' I was so shocked by all the amazing things happening around me - the sets, the costumes, the dancers, the music... everything. It was just so magical & I knew that everyone around me was feeling it too. Then there was no going back, I was obsessed with theater.

The Sound of Music was my favorite movie growing up, and I remember I was like 4 and I just looked at my mom and I told her "that's what Im gonna do". lol I think she blew it off but I got her to let me do my first real show, "The Boyfriend" when I was about 8, I was just a dancer but from that point on I was hooked lol I knew there was no going back :), and she now understands lol.

Posted: 12/22/05 at 11:37pmI saw my first professional production when I was a freshman in high school. There was a touring production of Phantom of the Opera. The overture blew me away and then Carlotta comes in and is singing High C's. THAT'S when I said this theatre is something else. I became phantom crazed and I thought "It can't get better than this!" LOL how foolish of me. I soon discovered Sondheim and Audra Ann McDonald. From Audra came JRB, LaChiusa, and Guettel. After I saw Ragtime and Kiss Me Kate(in the same day) I decided to actually change my major in college and go to a school for musical theatre. I've been ohh so happy since. I almost made a grave mistake there!

Since I could remember my dad has always been taking to shows and singing showtunes around the house, so I always had a connection to it. My first time I knew I love performing was when I was 5 and my class performed the Hokie- Pokie for our parents.
But the first time I said, I NEED to do and have this in my life was when I was 13. It was when I was walking out of Studio 54 from watching the revival of Cabaret with tears rolling down my eyes. I thought "If someones performance can affect me like this, I want to do this for the rest of my life."
From then on, I was hooked.

Posted: 12/23/05 at 1:01amEven though I saw Joseph about five times between the ages of 5 and 7, the moment I was hooked was when I saw Ragtime on tour...I thought it had me from the opening number, and LaChanze's Sarah pretty much confirmed what I suspected.

well, why not..I'll bite.
all of my best memories...and my worst memories, come to think of it, all have happened in conjunction with a show.
my first memories are of me watching the sound of music, hello dolly, the music man, and meet me in sait louis over and over again, and running back and forth to change costumes while singing and dancing. I knew every song from every show that I had on video. I still do.
but I think the one moment came when I played to the huge crowd of oh...130 people in my junior high's production of Hello Dolly. I was ernestina money...not gonna lie, brough the house down--uber laughs abounded.
I think it was when I took my curtain call that I was like "I could do this..for the rest of my life"
and I have.

There were two instances that occured within a month of each other and are the reason I'm so obsessed with theatre:
* going to see the Les Miz tour at the tender age of 10
* the world premiere of Jane Eyre in my hometown. I saw it three times and got to go backstage and meet all the major players: Marla Schaffel, Anthony Crivello, even John Caird.
Another main reason is my aunt. She was the first female music director at Music Theatre of Wichita, and has done multiple tours and shows. She is such an insperation to me in every sense of the word.
"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 1:16amWhen I was in first grade POTO came to Houston and so we went to see it. As soon as it started, I knew i had to be doing theater for the rest of my life. I owe my life to Phantom in a way. I am sure if i was older i would have not wanted to go to a show becuase it would be too "girly" or whatever. I am so glad i got to see it. It was really a life changing experience.

When I was younger I always loved to sing and perform. I aspired to be a "pop" singer (someone who knows me now would probably never guess that because I rarely even listen to pop music; nevermind like hardly any of it.) Yeah, and I was all about being "rich and famous" too. Isn't that a joke?
I got into theatre when I auditioned for my first show in the 6th grade. I had always watched musicals on tv and I had seen live shows and really enjoyed them, but I never thought about doing them. I auditioned for my schools producing of "Annie", hoping to get cast as anything. To my surprise I was cast as "Duffy".
That show got me wrapped into a new world that I knew nothing about. The only thing I knew was that I couldn't stop. I loved the feeling I felt when I sang in front of people but this was even more. This was becoming someone else. This was everything. And that is just what it became - everything to me.

Sitting in my living room with my mother and hearing the encore 2 of the 10nth anniversary Les Mis concert.
I swear it was that OOOOOOOONNNNEEEE MOOOOOOOORRRE DAAAAAWWWWNNNN! OOOOONNNNNEEEE MOOOOOORRREEEEE DAAAAAAYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEE DAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chills everywhere, and I listened to it many times after that. Still my fave show, always will be, and is the reason for me being here.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 1:43amSeeing POTO in London when I was 13 caught me into the trap of musical theater. Specifically the moment where the auctioneer says, " Perhaps we can drive away the ghosts with a little illumination. Gentlemen! And then the chromatic scale breaks out and the chandelier goes up. That captivated me to an extent that I have not yet recovered.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 2:04amI don't really know when the moment that I fell in love with theater in general was. But, I completely fell in love with Broadway about two years ago when I saw Hairspray, which was the first show I had ever seen on Broadway. I thought it was so amazing and decided at that moment that I want to be on Broadway, but we'll see how that goes.
