Wasn't Dracula on Broadway like a while ago?

The Wildhorn production was scheduled to come to NYC a year or so back (same season as DOTV), but after mixed to negative reviews in CA they pulled it from the season. Tom Hewitt was playing the title role.

With his work on Camille and Cyrano taking his time, it seems doubtful that we will see it soon.

Heard a demo of the score. Some good, some so so & he appeared to be writing more Broadway oriented songs. It sounded like he was adhering to the novel. Speaking of Vampire musicals, I have about 10 different ones on CD including Vladimir, Possessed (thought it was quite good), Dracul, Drakula, Dracula, DOTV 11 song demo(with Steve Barton) etc etc. There is a phelora of vampire musicals. Looking forward to Elton John's take on it

I saw Frank Langella as Dracula in 1977 at the Martin Beck Theater. He was perfect.

Dracula opened at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California, and received wonderful reviews. The show ran from Octerber 13 - November 21, 2001, with it's official opening on October 21. The showed played to 115% capacity during it's run, and had the highest paid capacity for any world premier production in the playhouses history. The original production was directed by Des McAnuff, and starred Tom Hewitt (Dracula), Amy Rutberg (Lucy), and William Youmans (Renfield). According to Dodger Theatricals, Frank Wildhorn's Dracula: The Musical is slated to begin touring in September of 2004. I personally can't wait for Dracula to open!!! I have heard several songs, and from what I have heard, it sounds AMAZING!

See Ya!

I saw Dracula in San Diego with Tom Hewitt. The special effects were mind boggling, what a beautifully eerie show, but the weirdest thing of all was that it didn't sound like a "wildhorn" show at all! It didn't have the big belty numbers, but more haunting and melodic. I think he was trying something new, but only 2-3 songs caught my ear. It was interesting and amazing to watch, yet weak in some points.

Same opinion here too. I saw it in San Diego and it was your typical Wildhorn musical. The music was very classical sounding and when we didn't leave humming any catchy melodies or anything. It was pretty neat to see. Opening night was even delayed due to technical difficulties. Musically, I thought it was kind of boring. I wish Camille had debut in San Diego rather than Dracula.
