who in what roles#0
Posted: 10/8/03 at 3:01pmAfter reading the post about DH I was wondering. Who of this generation of musical theatre performers should play what role they have not performed yet???? i.e. What role could Brian Stokes Mitchell play or Marin Mazzie??? Or for that matter, what role shouldn't they play??? Sorry about the grammar??

Roles Stokes SHOULD play:
Hajj in a Kismet revival
King Arthur in Camelot
Henry Higgins
Billy Bigelow (Imagining him singing Sililoquy is giving me shivers)
Roles Stokes should NOT play
Max Bialystock
Seymour Kregborn
Horace Vandergelder

I want to see him be the Lion in THE WIZ
I want to see Sutton play:
Jen in John and Jen with Hunter as John
And I think she would be a great dang I cant think of the character's name, but the words girl from Witches of Eastwick...SUKI???
AND The female lead in STEEL PIER
Jane K
Needs to be the Chello player in Witches
And then I want to see Benanti as Aurora in Kiss

Interesting choices, Stevos! :)
I would also like to see Alice as Roxie and Emily as Velma. And that is my dream that will never be fulfilled

I think Emily and Alice are both more Roxie... though, Emily could pull off both. Too bad neither are dancers, especially Alice.
Apparently Ems got down in Pump Boys (who knew she could tap??? lol). I think she'd definitely be better suited for Roxie than Vel -- can you imagine Emily doing that monologue?! She'd be more psycho than D'Amboise! And THATS hard to come by.
I'd also love to see her try her hand at Mama. That ones far more plausible.
As for Mazzie and BSM, I'll have to think on that one. Can we try them being in SEPARATE shows for a change of pace? LOL

Marin Mazzie would make a pretty good Witch in Into The Woods, I think, although her counterpart in London- Rachel York, would be my number one pick for the next revival-hehe. Marin would also be an amazing Velma Von Tussle in "Hairspray"- I know everyone on the board is sick of hearing about it, but I think she would be great.
As for Brian Stokes Mitchell- I would love to see him as Scar or Mufasa in The Lion King. I also think he would be a riot in the role of Trevor Graydon. He would also be a nice Reverand Moore in Footloose.

Ohh...Stokes would be a great Trevor Graydon!
Daisy--that was my thought about Alice and Emily never doing Chicago...neither one's dancing matches her vocal and acting skills! I thought Alice would be the better Roxie because she has that comic sexy vulnerability thing going on and Emily has always seemed earthier to me. But I agree...she could totally do either role no sweat! Em is too pretty though to be Mama I think, although she could totally sing it to little bitty pieces.
Oh...and one more I have to mention...another dream that may never come to pass...
Sutton Foster as Fanny Brice!

Michele Pawk is breathtakingly gorgeous and she played Mama Morton. Emily could belt the crap out of that part and she's damn funny. If Pawk can be a glamorous Mama, so can Ems! :)
I see where you're going with Alice and Emily as Roxie and Velma. I can't see Alice as Velma at all, so if you were casting them together, Emily would be the obvious choice as Vel. I still see her more as a Roxie -- her character that she just played was so a "Roxie type". In fact, most of the parts she's played border more on Roxie than Velma.
I still think if freaking Melanie Griffith can headline as Roxie, Emily could play it. She can act, SING, and DANCE circles around the ho--whoa, gonna stop before I get too mean.

Haha! Daisy, you make a damn good argument! And you're totally right...La Pawk is a gorgeous woman, so any Mama Morton can be gorgeous too.
Can't wait to see Bounce! :
