wicked question

hey I bought the Wicked soundtrack a few days ago... ive never seen the show before.. ive been traveling for a while now so i havent gotten the chance to be back in NY to see anything... anyways i LOVE the soundtrack but i dont quite follow the plot of the story... heres a few questions i have

- can someone explain why in the lyrics included with the cd theres a character names GLINDA and one named GALINDA... are they not the same person?

-where does fiyero come from what is he how does he become aquainted with Elphaba and GLinda?

-what happens to make elphaba and glinda become friends... it just seems like a big leap from 'every little trait however small makes my very flesh begin to crawl' to 'now that we're friends im going to make you my new project' etc...

-in the song where someone is describing how 'something bad is happening in Oz'.. what is that something bad and how is it resolved

-what did elphaba do to 'hurt her cause forever'in that song about defying gravity...

actually it would be nice if someone couls just connect the dots between all the songs on the soundtrack to make sure im understanding this... i really hope i can get back to NY soon to see it!

Galinda is the "proper old Gilikinese pronunciation."
Fiyero is a Winkie (from The Vinkus) and he meets Elphaba and Galinda at Shiz University.

If you find this interesting you should read the book and find out the rest for yourself. :)

You should read the book - but if you do don't think that its the same as the show. They're utterly different. If you don't get the answers you're looking for PM me and I'll explain. Otherwise I don't want to bother typing it all out!

- Galinda changes her name to Glinda before the end of Act I (long story)

- Fiyero arrives at school after it starts (he's a Winkie Prince, dashing playboy type character), right before the song "Dancing Through Life", he meets Galinda right when he enters the school, and Elphaba subsequently

-They become friends when Galinda tricks Elphaba into wearing the ugly black hat (Dancing Through Life) and then Elphaba shows up at the dance and everyone makes fun of her; Galinda feels bad for her and tries to help her fit in at the dance (another long story) and they become friends (BTW the plotline is pretty thin! So basically you are right it is a pretty big leap!)
-The "Something bad" that Dr. Dillamond talks about is that the animals (who can speak and are basically like humans) are rapidly losing their rights in Oz; Elphaba is like an animal rights activist
-The Wizard tricked her into making the monkeys (flying monkeys, like the movie) fly by using her powers so that he can use them as spies, and this made Elphaba angry so she refuses to help the wizard and lashes out him, etc.

thanks everyone you were a big help... im seeing it near the end of september im really bummed that all the original cast members wont be intact (but at least i get to see idina...)
man i really hope this show lasts a while id be thrilled to be an ensemble member in this show though i have my mind fixated on elphaba... but the chances of that are slim

ohh can I add a question? I live in California so *sigh* no chance of me seeing the show anytime soon.... but I was wondering, what winds up happening to Fiyero? And Nessa? It sounds like something happens to her too..

and, random comment, I think Boq is so sweet... "It's because...because....because you are so beautiful" ah... be still my beating heart.

SoftlyDeftly, this is a big spoiler:

***SPOILER WARNING***










Nessa becomes the governer. Elphie puts a spell on the shoes that her father gave to Nessa, and Nessa can walk again after being in a wheelchair. Of course, the house falls later on Nessa...Dorothy's house - we don't see that in action. And Fiyero becomes the scarecrow - Elphie has fallen in love with Fiyero.

One sl correction: after Galinda has tricked Elphaba into wearing the hat @ the party ("Black is the new pink") Elphaba( not knowing it was a trick) has used her influence w Madame Morrible to get Galinda into a special spells class, repaying bad with good. Galinda sees, this regrets her actions and changes her behavior/feelings for Elphie

ohhhh k, wow! I did not know that... how sad... I thought Nessa like, died or something (well, before the house falls on her) and I almost thought Fiyero was the Tinman so I guess I wasn't SO far off.... alright, now I'm going to go buy the book... thanks again!
