Hi,I'm trying to go see the show Wicked before January 9th(because Idina Menzel is leaving the show on that date), but the problem is that all weekend shows before and on that date are sold out.I have never seen the show, and I've been obsessed with it it since last December and I really wanna see Idina in the show, so if anyone can help me out and give me some info on how i can get 2 relatively cheap tickets for the show before the above mentioned date(weekend showings please)I'd really appreciate it.
P.S.- when I say cheap, I don't wanna pay more than 300

Posted: 10/25/04 at 3:21pmYou should totally try the lottery... it's $25 if you win and they're front row seats... I've won twice... it's a lot of fun... check out the official website for details on how to cut in on the lottery action.

Posted: 10/25/04 at 3:22pmI would try the cancellation line. I did it the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend and got 2 seats in row D. I paid $100 for each (you pay the face value of the ticket), the only downside is you hafta get there early to wait in line, but I was told they almost always have at least 5 cancellation tickets.

Jess -
It depends on what they have, and when. However, if it's ANYTHING like Kristin's last, it'll be nuts. I believe people started lining up about 4am for cancellation line, and there were almost 1100 people at lotto.

Posted: 10/25/04 at 3:44pmNo idea what the holiday weekend will be like, but typically, for a night show, I think people start lining up 3:30, 4!

If you try the lotto on Idina's last night you chances will be pretty slim I'd imagine, but if you tried the lotto on a weeknight, like a Thursday prior to her final performance you might have better luck... I'm not too sure how crazy the crowds have been for lotto since the last time I went (and won) was in April...
But then again... thanksgiving will probably be insane...

I don't remember all the technicalities of it, but I'll try to help...my friend who sells souvenirs in the lobby recommended being there like 4 hours before the show so you are first in line. For a Sunday matinee, we actually got there at 9:30 and were the second people in line. I think the Box Office actually opened at noon and around that time they took the first 20 people in the cancellation line and brought them inside to wait. At around 1, the cancellation tickets started to become available (couriers brought them by etc.) and they sold them as soon as they became available. Honestly, it didn't seem like that long of a wait, watching the lottery was strangely amusing and I was with two friends so we took turns getting food and stuff.
If you really want to see the show, I would recommend the cancellation line over the lottery (I've done both). The cancellation tickets are more expensive, but you have a better chance of actually seeing the show.

Each day, 2½ hours prior to show time
(11:30 AM for 2 PM matinees; 12:30 PM for
3 PM matinees; 4:30 PM for 7 PM performances; 5:30 PM for 8 PM performances), people who present themselves at the Gershwin Theatre box office will have their names placed in a hat. 30 minutes later, names will be drawn for 28 front-row seats at $25 each. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person, cash only. Photo-ID required.
Also, if u are willing to pay he 300 you say by cheap...they have VIP tickets now on ticketmaster for select dates. Weekends are 300 a ticket and weekdays are like 240-250 each. It is usually Row A-K center I believe.
Or every day, check for tickets for within a week span and something will probably pop up.
Good Luck!

Posted: 10/25/04 at 5:59pmonly if you win do you have to pay the 25 dollars right?
#12re: wicked tickets...help!
Posted: 10/25/04 at 6:04pmCorrect. But you have to have ID and 25 bucks ON YOU--if you don't have both ready to go they'll call another name, so no running to the ATM if you win. But yeah, no paying unless you win.

Posted: 10/25/04 at 11:45pmWhile I appreciate the help, I have to organize a whole trip around seeing the show; so I can't really leave it all to chance, because I need tickets in advance so I can make plans in coordinance to the date. So I guess I'm just gonna have to see it later, but I really appreciate all of your suggestions and assistance. BTW, does anyone know who Idina's replacement will be, and if she's any good?
