I'd wait but that's just me. Go see Piazza or Spelling Bee whether you have already or not!

Depends on whether you want to make up your own mind about a show or not.
If it sounds like a subject matter you'd be interested in, I say buy the tickets and see the show. If you think you'd be swayed by the negative or positive reviews of people who see the show in previews and post their comments on this board, then wait until after previews and buy tickets then.

Sorry, but I've sorta missed all the "gossip" surrounding this show. Exactly what's going on? I know it didnt get great reviews. Is it still playing its out of town tryout?

"THE fate of "The Mambo Kings" hinges on whether Tommy Tune is ready to get back in the arena.
Tune — who once dominated Broadway but hasn't staged a show in a decade — is being sought to take over the troubled, $12 million, New York-bound musical. He would replace Arnold Glimcher, who's not only directing the show but wrote the books and lyrics.
Daryl Roth and her son, Jordan, who are producing the show, are willing to delay the Broadway premiere by six months should Tune come aboard.
If he does, he'll bring in composer Maury Yeston, who helped Tune doctor "Grand Hotel" and "My One and Only" out of town.
If he declines, the word on Broadway is that the Roths will pull the plug."
Latest word is that Tune declined to take over the show.

There was a lot of talk on the main broadway boards (BBW and ATC) during the show's SF pre-Broadway run. Most of it centered around the "weak book" issues that the creative team were attempting to work on while the show was previewing OUT OF TOWN. The showings in SF were dissected to death in posts and the bad word of mouth from people who saw PREVIEWS of the show has had an unhealthy effect.
Then the critics came in and confirmed what board posters were already talking about, the show apparently has a weak book.
There has been little official word on the show's changes; just tidbits in columns and the like about show doctors (like Tommy Tune) flying out to SF to see what can be done to help the show and get it to Broadway.
It's nothing that hasn't been done before to hundreds of shows during their pre-Broadway timeframe. The only thing different is that nowadays blogs like this one shine a direct light on the pre broadway proceedings of every show.
The show is no longer in SF; it's now in NY, preparing for a July opening.

"The Mambo Kings is bringing in a new creative team. The show, which received mostly negative reviews out of town, originally featured direction by Arne Glimcher, music by Carlos Franzetti, lyrics by Glimcher and a book by Oscar Hijuelos and Glimcher, but now Broadway.com has learned that Jerry Mitchell is being brought on board to help direct. Jason Robert Brown will rewrite part of the score and David Ives will work on the book."

alright, thanks justme2...I'm kind of excited about this show know. With Brown and Mitchel and Ives working on the show, it might actually be good. Here's hoping...although I mean not even the best creative team in the world can save a bad show if its a bad show.

I think its these are VERY STRANGE choices to fix the show. They seemed to invite everyone is and whoever was that desparate took the job. I feel another Dance of the Vampires and I can't wait!!!

I just thought of a great idea... the Cagelles can join the company of the Mambo Kings... And they can call the show Mambo Queens...
