I don't know if this is the place to ask, but does anybody have any resources (or advice) for writing lyrics for the theatre? I write stories and plays, but I've never written lyrics for anything, and I'm not really sure where to start.

It's a lot harder than it seems to write good stuff. But here's a book.

I wrote about it a while ago. It's not a one-size-fits-all formula, but it may be helpful when you're just starting out.

The best advice ever given is the famous quote from “Adventure Time:” sucking at something is the first step to being kind of good at something.

So… just write it. You can study, you can take classes, you can analyze and analyze, but you’ll learn more by trying and doing and then doing more. It’s like a muscle- you get better the more you do it.
