quick question . .. in the creative for the official musical website - I wonder why only Roger, Mimi and Mark are featured also who is the Mimi? I know that Roger is Carey and Mark is Trey.

Right now -
Roger - Cary Shields
Mark - Matt Caplan
Mimi - Karmine Alers

aha. Yes, but I can't remember the actual spelling of her first name or what her last name is at all - Antoinique, or something like that? I think the photos are from a touring cast.

And as for why those three characters, probably because they're the most conventional "leads," even though RENT has eight principal characters.

She was one of the best understudies for Mimi that Wax Lion has ever seen. Very strong vocals. He's almost 100% sure she was screen tested for the movie early on.

i heard her do o holy night at some concert thing in nyc. she sounded sooooo amazing! and i think she's pretty young, too. one of the best voices i have heard in rent.

She's amazing. She understudied the roles of Mimi and Maureen. What a powerhouse voice and she brough a fresh attitude to the roles (especially Maureen). I've seen her in concerts and she is great! I wish she would've made it into the movie.

Random- I dunno why I can see LArk Vorhees (spelling?) Lisa from Saved by the Bell as a young Joanne or something.

Does anyone know how long Karmine has been in the role of Mimi? Because I believe I have seen her maybe three times in the course of four years, but I could be mistaken. But she was amazing live, and I prefer her to Daphne on the recording, even though I never got to see Daphne live.

Karmine started performing in Rent in 2001, on the Benny tour. When the Bennies closed in July of '01, Karmine came to Broadway to replace her sister Yassmin as a swing here, I believe in September. She was a swing for awhile, and then became fulltime Mimi in the winter of 2002. She's been Mimi, or a swing, off and on since then. Krystal Washington and Melanie Brown have been fulltime Mimi in the past two years too, but Karmine hasn't left the cast since she joined in 2001.

Just listened to her Out Tonight on her official website and DAMN! I know, a bit late on this but I've never heard Karmine before now. She sounded incredible and she is beautiful to top it all off. I can only imagine what seeing her live is like. My friend recently went to NY and saw her in RENT and was blown away. He's not into RENT at all but his parents got tickets and he told me that her performance (and a few of the other cast members) actually made the show a very enjoyable experience for him. This has probably been asked before but does anyone know how long she is contracted for? I'm going to NY this fall and I'd love to be able to see her live.
